Exploring the dew retting feasibility of hemp in very contrasting European environments: Influence on the tensile mechanical properties of fibres and composites

Samuel Requile et al.

Summary: Retting of fibrous plants such as flax and hemp is a crucial step in the production of textiles and reinforcement fabrics. Dew-retting, traditionally used in certain regions of Europe, can be conducted in different climates and locations with proper conditions. Dew retting can be completed in as short as three weeks under optimal conditions, and does not negatively impact the tensile properties of hemp fibers or composite materials when done carefully.
