Adhesive and tough hydrogels promoted by quaternary chitosan for strain sensor

Te Wang et al.

Summary: A multifunctional hydrogel with conductivity, adhesiveness, toughness, self-healing and anti-swelling properties was successfully prepared by adding HACC to the PAA/Fe3+ cross-linking system. The hydrogel exhibited excellent mechanical properties, self-healing efficiency, anti-swelling properties, and adhesiveness, making it a promising candidate for flexible sensor applications. The introduction of iron ions provided sensitive conductivity, enabling direct monitoring of various motions.

Advanced and versatile lignin-derived biodegradable composite film materials toward a sustainable world

Han-Min Wang et al.

Summary: The excessive use of petroleum-based non-biodegradable plastic products has led to severe environmental pollution and ecological problems, prompting the development of biodegradable and renewable alternative materials. Lignin, a plentiful aromatic polymer with excellent biodegradability and biocompatibility, has shown great potential for creating diverse functional and sustainable materials to replace plastics. Recent advancements in the preparation and utilization of lignin-derived biodegradable film materials have garnered significant attention for their applications in sensors, energy storage systems, packaging, and biomedical materials.

A well-defined lignin-based filler for tuning the mechanical properties of polymethyl methacrylate

Qingwen Cao et al.

Summary: Through structural analysis, it is found that the strength and toughness of lignin-filled polymer blends (PMMA/L-g-PMMA) can be effectively adjusted by regulating the molecular weights, types and contents of S/G units, and flexible/rigid linkages in lignin macromolecules. This study not only provides a simple and effective strategy to overcome the heterogeneity of lignin, but also paves the way for high-value utilization of lignin on a broader scale.
