Stability of SARS-CoV-2 on critical personal protective equipment

Samantha B. Kasloff et al.

Summary: The study provides the first comprehensive assessment of SARS-CoV-2 stability on experimentally contaminated personal protective equipment (PPE) widely used by healthcare workers and the general public. Results showed that the virus can persist for up to 21 days on certain materials, while rapidly degrading on cotton fabric within 24 hours. These findings highlight the importance of proper handling of contaminated PPE in high-risk settings and suggest the potential utility of cotton in limiting COVID-19 transmission.

Why is mock care not a good proxy for predicting hand contamination during patient care?

M. F. King et al.

Summary: The study observed healthcare workers' behaviors during different types of care procedures, finding significant differences in surface contacts, contact time, and hand hygiene behaviors between actual and mock care settings. The study also highlighted variations in duration and hand hygiene practices among different healthcare professionals. Additionally, the study showed that mock care underestimated hand microbial contamination by approximately 30% compared to actual care.
