A new method for assessing the performance of signal processing filters in suppressing the side lobe level

Mok Kun Jeong et al.

Summary: This study aimed to propose a new ground truth ultrasound imaging method and confirm its efficacy in side lobe suppression filtering. Various techniques were assessed for reducing side lobes, with aperture apodization method increasing contrast but decreasing resolution, and side lobe estimation and reduction filtering being computationally demanding yet effective. Compounding ultrasound images processed by different methods can increase resolution and contrast while reducing speckle noise.

Imaging With Therapeutic Acoustic Wavelets-Short Pulses Enable Acoustic Localization When Time of Arrival is Combined With Delay and Sum

Harry J. Davies et al.

Summary: Passive acoustic mapping (PAM) is an algorithm that reconstructs the location of acoustic sources using an array of receivers. The ATP-PAM algorithm described in this article utilizes time of flight and delay-and-sum beamforming to locate acoustic sources in both the lateral and axial dimensions, vastly improving spatial resolution. This approach has been shown to be effective in targeting and monitoring drug delivery into the brain.
