High-temperature superconducting screens for magnetic field-error cancellation in accelerator magnets

L. Bortot et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of superconducting screens based on HTS tapes to reduce magnetic field imperfections in accelerator magnets by utilizing persistent currents' magnetization to cancel out the magnetic field error. The screens show a significant reduction of the magnetic field error up to a factor of four in dipole-field configurations at 77 K. Simulations suggest that increasing the width and thickness of screens and operating at 4.5 K may eliminate field errors almost entirely for typical excitation cycles of accelerator magnets.
