On-demand vehicle-assisted charging in wireless rechargeable sensor networks

Rohit Kumar et al.

Summary: Wireless power transfer technology allows for the wireless charging of sensor batteries by wireless charging vehicles (WCVs), increasing the lifespan of Wireless Rechargeable Sensor Networks (WRSNs). This paper introduces a vehicle-assisted framework for charging sensors in WRSNs, with a biobjective charge scheduling problem formulated to maximize the number of alive sensors while minimizing the energy consumed for WCVs' movement. Detailed simulations show that the proposed algorithms excel in charging a large number of sensors compared to existing schemes.

Asynchronous Resilient Wireless Sensor Network for Train Integrity Monitoring

Mihai T. Lazarescu et al.

Summary: To enhance railway efficiency, researchers propose a wireless sensor network design for low-power timely train integrity reporting, with each train coupling redundantly monitored by four sensors. Energy-optimized configurations show successful delivery of over 95% of reports for a 50-car train in 3.6 seconds, even with communication or node failures. Qualitative test results for a 20-node network in various conditions are also reported.
