Assessing Near Real-Time Satellite Precipitation Products for Flood Simulations at Sub-Daily Scales in a Sparsely Gauged Watershed in Peruvian Andes

Harold Llauca et al.

Summary: This study investigates the applicability of Satellite Precipitation Products in near real-time for sub-daily runoff simulation in the Vilcanota River basin, finding that the IMERG-E product generally presents higher quality and has the potential for real-time flood monitoring. The results are helpful for implementing flood early warning systems and the monitoring and short-term hydrological forecasting of floods by the Peruvian National Weather and Hydrological Service.

PISCO_HyM_GR2M: A Model of Monthly Water Balance in Peru (1981-2020)

Harold Llauca et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the hydrological performance of a monthly water balance model in Peru using high-resolution meteorological PISCO dataset developed by SENAMHI. The GR2M model was utilized in 3594 sub-basins and river streams, divided into 14 calibration regions, to simulate monthly discharges. The results indicate a good representation of monthly discharges in a large portion of Peruvian sub-basins.

Behind the scenes of streamflow model performance

Laurene J. E. Bouaziz et al.

Summary: This study quantified differences in performance among 12 hydrological models, finding substantial variations in internal process representation and a lack of systematic consistency with different data sources. Modeled annual evaporation rates were consistent with GLEAM estimates, but there were significant uncertainties in other aspects, indicating the complexity and challenges in accurately modeling hydrological processes.

Progressive water deficits during multiyear droughts in basins with long hydrological memory in Chile

Camila Alvarez-Garreton et al.

Summary: The study found that during the megadrought in central-south Chile, snow-dominated catchments have longer hydrological memory compared to pluvial basins, making them less vulnerable to extreme meteorological droughts but more affected by persistent deficits.
