Number and Station of Lymph Node Metastasis After Curative-intent Resection of Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma Impact Prognosis

Xu-Feng Zhang et al.

Summary: The study suggests that curative-intent resection plays a critical role in the survival of ICC patients. The number and station of lymph node metastasis significantly impact patient survival, and examining at least 6 lymph nodes has the greatest discriminatory power for staging.

Summary: Machine learning analysis on MRI and CT radiomics features showed promising predictive performance in differentiating cHCC-CC from other liver cancers, with MRI features demonstrating the best performance. Radiologists read had a high misdiagnosis rate for cHCC-CC.

Is laparoscopic liver resection safe for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma? A meta-analysis

Parbatraj Regmi et al.

Summary: Comparing laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) and open liver resection (OLR) for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), LLR showed advantages in terms of blood transfusion, resection rate, length of stay, overall morbidities, and death due to tumor recurrence compared to OLR. However, LLR was associated with smaller tumor size, fewer major hepatectomies, lower lymph node dissection rate, and inferior 5-year overall survival.

A comparison of surgical resection and liver transplantation in the treatment of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma in the era of modern chemotherapy: An analysis of the National Cancer Database

Jonathan J. Hue et al.

Summary: The study indicated that there were no significant differences in postoperative outcomes and survival between hepatectomy and liver transplantation for patients with localized intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Considering the resources and chronic immunosuppression required for transplantation, hepatectomy may be the preferable approach for treating localized ICC.

Summary: Analyzing a pre-TACE radiomics model for HCC patients undergoing LT can predict adverse outcomes with good performance, helping to forecast tumor progression with high accuracy. Further external model validation with a larger sample size is needed.

Summary: Intra-arterial therapies, such as TACE and TARE, are promising treatments for unresectable ICC patients. While both provide similar survival outcomes, TACE has a higher incidence of adverse events compared to TARE.

Liver Transplantation for Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma: A Meta-analysis and Meta-regression of Survival Rates

Ioannis A. Ziogas et al.

Summary: Liver transplantation for patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) remains a controversial topic, as it is considered a contraindication in most centers worldwide. This systematic review and meta-analysis suggests that patients with cirrhosis may have a higher recurrence-free survival rate, while those with incidental diagnosis did not show significant differences. Overall, liver transplantation may benefit patients with very early iCCA or carefully selected patients with advanced iCCA after neoadjuvant therapy.

Locoregional therapies in patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma: A systematic review and pooled analysis

Julien Edeline et al.

Summary: This systematic review examined the outcomes of locoregional treatments for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCC), finding that ablation had satisfactory results and may be recommended when surgery is not feasible. The available literature on LRT for iCC was heterogeneous and of insufficient quality to make strong recommendations.
