Efficient Catalysts for the Green Synthesis of Adipic Acid from Biomass

Weiping Deng et al.

Summary: Efficient catalysts using carbon nanotube-supported platinum nanoparticles and activated carbon-supported rhenium oxide and palladium have been discovered for the transformation of glucose into adipic acid. The combination of rhenium oxide and palladium achieves a 99% yield in removing hydroxyl groups from glucaric acid to produce adipic acid. This work presents a green synthesis route for adipic acid and provides a bifunctional-catalysis strategy for efficient deoxygenation.
