Venous overload choroidopathy: A hypothetical framework for central serous chorioretinopathy and allied disorders

Richard F. Spaide et al.

Summary: Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is characterized by fluid leakage at the level of the retinal pigment epithelium, leading to macular detachment. Recent evaluations have shown that eyes with CSC have similar choroidal vascular abnormalities as eyes following occlusion of the vortex veins or carotid cavernous sinus fistulas. Abnormal venous outflow from the choroid appears to be a key factor in the pathophysiology of CSC.

Summary: The choroid in eyes with CSC has a steeper slope around the posterior pole, and UWF-OCT can be used to evaluate abnormalities of choroidal structures in eyes with CSC from the posterior pole to the periphery.

Summary: Using ultra-widefield ICGA, this study found that patients with PCV exhibit vortex vein engorgement and an increased choroidal hyperpermeability area. These results offer valuable insights into the pathogenesis and prognosis of PCV patients.
