Discordant forearc deposition and volcanism preceding late-Cretaceous subduction shutdown in Marlborough, north-eastern South Island, New Zealand

Nathan P. Gardiner et al.

Summary: Compression during normal continental-oceanic subduction leads to the development of a rugose subduction wedge landward of the trench within the marine forearc. Second order subduction events can disrupt these processes over several millions of years and elicit depositional responses that are discordant within the forearc stratigraphy. The synchronicity, long-term cyclicity and regional extent of these stratigraphic changes indicate that regional tectonism underpinned deposition.

Reservoir quality evaluation of the Farewell sandstone by integrating sedimentological and well log analysis in the Kupe South Field, Taranaki Basin-New Zealand

S. M. Talha Qadri et al.

Summary: The study utilized sedimentological and well log-based petrophysical analyses to evaluate the Farewell sandstone reservoir formation in the Kupe South Field. Results showed variable composition in the sandstone, significant total porosity and permeability, as well as the presence of authigenic clay and carbonate affecting pore spaces. Well log analysis revealed low shale content, good porosity values, significant water and hydrocarbon saturation, and the presence of hydrocarbon-bearing zones, confirming the Farewell sandstone as a good reservoir formation.
