Phytoplankton Composition and Environmental Drivers in the Northern Strait of Georgia (Salish Sea), British Columbia, Canada

Justin Del Bel Belluz et al.

Summary: A 4-year time series study in the northern Strait of Georgia revealed that phytoplankton community dynamics were largely dominated by diatoms, with complex interactions of environmental factors driving the variability in spring diatom blooms. The study also identified a unique non-diatom bloom in July 2016, and highlighted the persistent contributions of prasinophytes and cryptophytes to the phytoplankton community, particularly during summer months.
