Microbial community shift via black carbon: Insight into biological nitrogen removal from microbial assemblage and functional patterns

Yumiao Lu et al.

Summary: This study aims to determine the microbial assemblage and functional patterns under black carbon addition, and found that the nitrate removal efficiency of modified black carbon system achieved 46.44%. The deterministic process dominated the assemblage of community, with key taxa like Sulfuricella, Allorhizobium, and Nitrospira stimulating the shift of community composition regarding nitrogen removal.

Land-use conversion from open field to greenhouse cultivation differently affected the diversities and assembly processes of soil abundant and rare fungal communities

Xingang Zhou et al.

Summary: Soil fungal communities, consisting of abundant and rare sub-communities, exhibit differential responses to land use conversion, with greenhouse cultivation reducing alpha diversity and spatial turnover rate. The abundant sub-community is more sensitive to land-use change, with changes in assembly processes largely associated with soil physicochemical properties. Conversion from open field cultivation to greenhouse cultivation promotes deterministic processes, while conversion from vegetable cultivation to greenhouse cultivation decreases deterministic processes. Rare taxa play a crucial role in maintaining the stability of fungal co-occurrence network.
