Finite rate simulations and analyses of wet/distributed flame structure in swirl-stabilized combustion

Kai Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates wet/steam-diluted combustion in a premixed swirl burner using large eddy simulation and a partially stirred reactor method. It identifies key features of wet flame structures and extends flame regime classification to describe combustion status of fluid parcels. Wet flames present more fluid parcels in the practical CDC regime, capable of self-igniting via radical explosion, while dry flames self-ignite via thermal runaway. The study also highlights the importance of species CH2O and temperature in dry flames, and the role of C2H6 in the self-ignitability of wet fluid parcels.
