Sequential fed batch extractive fermentation for enhanced bioethanol production using recycled Spathaspora passalidarum and mixed sugar composition

D. Farias et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the sequential cell recycle fed-batch fermentation with simultaneous ethanol production and removal is an efficient strategy for bioethanol production from lignocellulosic hydrolysates, resulting in improved fermentation performance and high ethanol yields. The wild-type strain Spathaspora passalidarum showed robustness and high ethanol productivity in converting various sugars into ethanol, indicating its potential for enhancing bioethanol production in a single fermentation step.
