Probing the effect of molecular structure and compositions in extracted oil on the characteristics of needle coke

Zhichen Zhang et al.

Summary: The quality of needle coke can be influenced by the alkyl side chains, pyrenes, and phenanthrenes contents in the raw material, which can be adjusted by the extraction temperature and solvent to oil ratio. Proper alkyl side chains and Py/Ph ratio are beneficial for the preparation process of needle coke.

Sequential pretreatments of an FCC slurry oil sample for preparation of feedstocks for high-value solid carbon materials

Shouhui Jiao et al.

Summary: FCC slurry oil (SO), an important by-product of the FCC process, is rich in aromatic components and can be used to produce high-value carbonaceous products. Sequential pretreatments and purifications are essential to improve the comprehensive properties of feedstocks and develop diverse carbonaceous mesophase during carbonization. The synthesized needle coke from the obtained oil samples during sequential pretreatments can be applied in anode material of lithium-ion batteries with suitable performance.

The effect of heat pretreatment of heavy oil on the pyrolysis performance and structural evolution of needle coke

Zhichen Zhang et al.

Summary: The heat pretreatment process removed small molecular volatiles and increased polycyclic aromatic content, reducing disordered gas flow disturbance and transforming the structure to fine flow texture. Pre-treatment of light components avoided out-plane crosslinking short carbonaceous sheets within the lamellae, reducing steric hindrance and defects.

Public-Private Partnership as a Tool of Sustainable Development in the Oil-Refining Sector: Russian Case

Irina Filatova et al.

Summary: The global energy market has undergone dramatic changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the OPEC+ agreement, and the increasing share of green energy, negatively impacting the oil sector. While oil will decrease in importance as an energy resource in the long term, it will still play a significant role for many years. The oil industry has the potential to reduce greenhouse emissions and ensure affordable and reliable energy through technical expertise, management, and financial resources.
