Effect of dimethoxymethane (DMM) additive on combustion and emission characteristics under different working conditions in CI engines

Mingzhang Pan et al.

Summary: The study found that DMM-diesel blends can improve the engine's fuel thermal efficiency and reduce particulate emissions, especially small particles. The addition of DMM significantly lowers the peak particle number concentration while increasing the proportion of small particles. Additionally, the lowest total particle mass concentration is achieved with the use of DMM in the fuel blend.

Pd nanoparticles supported on CeO2 nanospheres as efficient catalysts for dehydrogenation from additive-free formic acid at low temperature

Yibo Gao et al.

Summary: Pd nanoparticles (NPs)-CeO2 based catalysts were successfully synthesized, with Pd NPs uniformly dispersed on CeO2 nanospheres showing excellent catalytic performance. Increasing Pd loading amount led to improved catalytic efficiency, with the 10 wt% Pd*CeO2 catalyst exhibiting the highest activity for dehydrogenation of formic acid. The superior performance of 10 wt% Pd*CeO2 can be attributed to the high dispersion of Pd NPs, more electron-rich Pd active sites, and the Strong Metal-Support Interactions (SMSI) between Pd and CeO2.

Experimental and numerical study on the effect of single-hydroxybenzene/n-heptane blends on engine combustion and particulate emissions

Haozhong Huang et al.

Summary: The study examines the impact of single-hydroxybenzene/n-heptane blended fuel on engine performance and particle emission characteristics to identify an optimal composition for a model diesel fuel. Among the tested fuels, the n-butylbenzene/n-heptane blend shows the closest effects to pure diesel (D100) in terms of engine performance and particle emissions, making it suitable for modeling purposes.

Experimental and numerical study of combustion and emissions performance in a hydrogen-enriched Wankel engine at stoichiometric and lean operations

Cheng Shi et al.

Summary: Based on experimental and numerical simulations, the addition of hydrogen in a retrofitted Wankel engine was found to increase combustion temperature and pressure, optimizing combustion processes and improving engine stability. However, it also led to increased nitrogen oxide emissions, which could be mitigated by diluting the mixture.

Flame structure, turbulent burning velocity and its unified scaling for lean syngas/air turbulent expanding flames

Haoran Zhao et al.

Summary: A systematic experimental study was conducted on lean premixed syngas/air turbulent expanding flames with varying turbulence intensities, initial pressures, and hydrogen volumetric fractions. Results showed that increasing turbulence intensity and initial pressure resulted in refined and wrinkled flames, leading to larger flame areas and higher turbulent burning velocities. The rise in hydrogen fraction also significantly enhanced the burning velocity due to the promotion of laminar burning velocity and diffusional-thermal instability. The study also found a unified scaling of turbulent burning velocity, indicating a practical method to correlate turbulent Reynolds number with Lewis number close to unity. Additionally, expanding flames exhibited a self-similar propagation law with a quantitative dependence of turbulent burning velocity with flame expansion.
