Strategies for gas production from Class 2 hydrate accumulations by depressurization

Shuxia Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates an optimal strategy for gas production from Class 2 hydrate deposits by depressurization, considering the effect of production layer thickness and location through numerical simulation methods. Results show that the dissociation of hydrates is mainly influenced by pressure drop propagation and heat transfer mechanisms, and thicker production layers lead to higher gas production rates. Additionally, the presence of bottom-water layers can significantly increase gas production rates, but with increasing thickness of these layers, the increment in cumulative gas production decreases and cumulative water production increases.
