Cerebral haemodynamics and oxygenation during whole-body exercise over 5 days at high altitude

Mathieu Marillier et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of acute and prolonged exposure to high altitude on cerebral haemodynamics during submaximal endurance exercise. Despite exercising at the same relative intensity, participants showed sustained impairment in cerebral oxygenation after prolonged exposure to high altitude, leading to no improvement in exercise performance. The findings suggest that deterioration in cerebral oxygenation may play a role in the absence of exercise performance improvement after partial acclimatization to high altitude.

Increased serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor with high-intensity interval training in stroke patients: A randomized controlled trial

Chih-Chin Hsu et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) on stroke patients. The results showed that HIIT significantly improved aerobic capacity, peak cardiac output, cerebral oxygenation, and serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels, as well as facilitated dendritic protrusions in neurons.

Influence of exertional hypoxemia on cerebral oxygenation in fibrotic interstitial lung disease

Mathieu Marillier et al.

Summary: Hypoxemia may impair cerebral oxygenation during exercise in patients with fibrotic interstitial lung disease (f-ILD), with varying levels of impact among individuals. Patients showing significant cerebral deoxygenation during exercise had lower arterial oxygen saturation and peak O2 uptake compared to their counterparts. Changes in cerebral oxygenation independently predicted peak O2 uptake, suggesting a potential contribution to exercise intolerance in f-ILD patients.

Summary: Exercise-induced hypoxaemia is common in patients with f-ILD, leading to increased muscle fatigue. Supplemental oxygen during exercise can improve muscle oxygenation and reduce fatigue in these patients.

Summary: This study found that a 9-month community physical activity program can improve OSA severity, but these improvements may not be sustained after stopping exercise. The results highlight the importance of long-term adherence to regular physical activity in maintaining improvements in OSA severity.
