Developmental regulation of stolon and rhizome

Lei Guo et al.

Summary: Stolons and rhizomes are modified stems that facilitate vegetative reproduction by maintaining hybrid genotypes. In stolon development, gibberellins and MADS box genes promote formation while the DELLA repressor inhibits it. Photoperiod plays a role in regulating stolon formation by controlling GA biosynthesis or balancing asexual and sexual reproduction modes.

Clonal integration driven by source-sink relationships is constrained by rhizome branching architecture in a running bamboo species (Phyllostachys glauca): A 15N assessment in the field

Jianmin Shi et al.

Summary: The study found that ramets in zero-barrier zones exhibited higher intensity, speed, and amount of nitrogen translocation compared to ramets in barrier zones. Immature ramets had significantly greater translocation intensity and amount than mature ramets in zero-barrier zones, while translocation traits were similar for both in barrier zones. Distance did not impact nitrogen translocation, which was mainly confined to zero-barrier zones by rhizome branching architecture.

Effects of different planting approaches and site conditions on aboveground carbon storage along a 10-year chronosequence after moso bamboo reforestation

Chong Li et al.

Summary: Moso bamboo is widely used for afforestation and reforestation in subtropical China due to its high carbon sequestration rate and benefits in controlling soil erosion. Different planting approaches and site conditions have significant effects on stand structure dynamics and aboveground carbon storage accumulation in moso bamboo forests. Different growth patterns and carbon storage levels are observed under varying planting approaches and site conditions.

Assessing aboveground carbon storage capacity in bamboo plantations with various species related to its affecting factors across Taiwan

Yi-Hung Liu et al.

Summary: Through integrating data from various bamboo forests in Taiwan, the study examines the contribution of different bamboo species to aboveground carbon storage (ACS) and its influencing factors. Comparisons of ACS among different bamboo species revealed significantly higher values for Ma bamboo compared to Moso bamboo and Makino bamboo. A regression model was built using monopodial bamboo type, with basal area, culm number, and mean diameter at breast height as the main factors affecting ACS.

Using terrestrial laser scanning for characterizing tree structural parameters and their changes under different management in a Mediterranean open woodland

Ekaterina Bogdanovich et al.

Summary: This study developed two point cloud slice-based methods for estimating diameter at breast height (DBH) using terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) and evaluated the biometric relationships among tree structural properties. The results showed the potential of multitemporal TLS for monitoring small changes in crown dimensions and quantifying management effects in vegetation dynamics studies.

How drought stress becomes visible upon detecting tree shape using terrestrial laser scanning (TLS)

Martin Jacobs et al.

Summary: This study introduced a new method for efficiently monitoring tree vitality, focusing on changes in tree shape due to drought stress in Norway spruce and European beech. The results showed that drought stress led to smaller crown size, reduced height growth, increased crown transparency, and changes in crown roughness. Additionally, the study found significant differences in crown projection area, height increment, and crown roughness between trees under drought conditions and those in normal growing conditions.
