Experimental and numerical study on multiaxial creep behavior of 16MND5 steel at 700 °C

Jian Zhu et al.

Summary: In-vessel retention (IVR) is a key strategy to ensure the structural integrity of RPV under severe accidents, where multiaxial creep is the main failure mode. The phase transition and grain boundary precipitation of 16MND5 steel have significant impacts on creep behaviors. Additionally, a new model incorporating the term of activation energy Q based on the Kachanov-Robotnov continuous damage model (CDM) has been developed to study the damage evolution and multiaxial creep behaviors of 16MND5 steel, showing good agreement with experimental results.

V. Falahi et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of stress classification on the cyclic viscoplastic response of a thick spherical vessel, using the Chaboche viscoplastic model. The study finds that the rates of loading and unloading do not significantly influence the cyclic viscoplastic behavior of the vessel.

Summary: This paper investigates the creep fatigue behavior of P92 steel at high temperatures through experiments and analysis, with a focus on the influence of temperature, load holding time, and pre-fatigue damage. The SEDE model is found to be the most suitable for predicting the creep fatigue life of P92 steel, while microstructure analysis and fracture morphology observations explain the damage evolution mechanism of the material.

Characterizing microstructural evolution and low cycle fatigue behavior of 316H austenitic steel at high-temperatures

Lianyong Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between microstructural evolution and low cycle fatigue behavior of 316H austenitic steel at the working temperature of generation-IV nuclear power plants. It was found that different strain amplitudes led to different expressions of cyclic softening behavior due to the evolution of dislocation structures, and dynamic recrystallization resulted in a decrease in dislocation density. A modified life prediction model based on plastic strain energy was proposed to predict the fatigue life of 316H steel.

Mechanical behavior of additively manufactured and wrought 316L stainless steels before and after neutron irradiation

T. S. Byun et al.

Summary: Research was conducted on the mechanical performance of nuclear reactor components fabricated using additive manufacturing methods, with testing conducted before and after neutron irradiation. The AM 316L stainless steel showed hardening and softening after irradiation. The relatively lower strength 316L SS retained higher ductility under irradiation conditions.

Cyclic deformation behavior and dynamic strain aging of 316LN stainless steel under low cycle fatigue loadings at 550 °C

Bingbing Li et al.

Summary: High-temperature low-cycle fatigue tests were conducted at 550 degrees C with various strain amplitudes and strain rates. The results showed that cyclic hardening was caused by increased back stress and the combined action of back and friction stresses, while cyclic softening was attributed to a decrease in friction stress. Additionally, the evolution of dynamic strain aging activity exhibited a clear dependence on loading cycles and directions, with DSA activity being stronger in the compressive plastic deformation regime of hysteresis loops.

Size effect in creep-fatigue crack growth interaction in P2M steel

Valery Shlyannikov et al.

Summary: The investigation focused on crack propagation under creep-fatigue interaction in C(T) specimens of P2M steel, with numerical calculations determining stress-strain state fields and stress intensity factors at the crack front. The experimental results were interpreted using traditional and new cyclic fracture diagrams, showing differences in crack growth behavior under creep-dominated stress intensity factors. The crack growth rate increased monotonically in specimens with the same geometry under creep-fatigue interaction compared to harmonic fatigue, indicating a significant increase in total crack growth rate when fatigue and creep contributions are combined.

Probing strain rate effect on the creep-fatigue fracture mechanism of 9%Cr steel-welded joint via nanoindentation characterization

Yuxuan Song et al.

Summary: The study investigated the strain rate-related creep-fatigue interactions on the long-term service damage of 9%Cr steel-welded joint, revealing that CF life and fracture locations are influenced by strain rates. The local mechanical properties such as nanoindentation hardness and creep resistance were found to decrease with increasing CF strain rates.

Cycle-dependent creep-fatigue deformation and life predictions in a nickel-based superalloy at elevated temperature

Lv-Yi Cheng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the strain-controlled creep-fatigue behavior of a nickel-based superalloy at 650 degrees C, using a non-unified constitutive framework to describe the macroscopic cyclic deformation process and quantitatively evaluating creep-fatigue damage using the cycle-by-cycle strain energy density exhaustion approach. The proposed life model effectively revealed the effects of strain ratio and dwell time on creep-fatigue life endurances, with all data points predicted within +/- 1.5 error band. Improved life prediction capacities were observed for long dwell times based on the three-regime creep mechanism.

In situ high-energy X-ray study of deformation mechanisms in additively manufactured 316L stainless steel

Xuan Zhang et al.

Summary: The room-temperature tensile behavior of AM 316L SS was studied using high-energy X-ray diffraction and X-ray tomography. It was found that AM 316L SS exhibited high dislocation storage capability and an attractive combination of strength and ductility during plastic deformation. The morphological changes of built-in pores in AM 316L SS during deformation and fracture were also revealed to have significant roles in the material's performance.
