SoilAcidobacteriaStrainAB23Resistance to Oxidative Stress Through Production of Carotenoids

Otavio Henrique Bezerra Pinto et al.

Summary: Metagenomic studies have shown the prevalence of Acidobacteria in soils, with many exhibiting carotenoid-related pigments that aid in environmental stress tolerance. Strain AB23 from Acidobacteria produces carotenoids in the presence of light and vitamins, providing tolerance to oxidative stress. The presence of carotenoid genes is widespread among Acidobacteria and provides a competitive advantage in soils with environmental oxidative stress.
