An unprecedented Fe-catalyzed ring-opening reaction of simple cyclobutanones has been developed, allowing for the synthesis of conjugated enones with good functional group tolerance in high yields under mild conditions. Product derivatization and gram-scale experiments further demonstrated the synthetic utility of the reaction.
