Does the drought tolerance of guar [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub.] extend belowground to root nodules?

Rajan Shrestha et al.

Summary: Two greenhouse studies were conducted to investigate the effects of static and dynamic water regimes on guar over 50 days. Results showed that water stress had the greatest negative impact on nodule weight and aboveground biomass, but the plant was resilient in maintaining and recovering nodule growth under water stress.

Testing the efficacy of existing USDA Rhizobium germplasm collection accessions as inoculants for guar

Jennifer MacMillan et al.

Summary: Legume inoculants introduce legume-specific rhizobia bacteria to the soil, promoting nitrogen fixation. Guar, a legume mainly used for industrial purposes, has limited commercial inoculant options. USDA lists four Rhizobium strains compatible with guar. Research showed positive impacts of two strains on guar growth, recommending further field testing for effective inoculants.

The root system of guar: Spatial and temporal analysis of root and nodule development

Jennifer MacMillan et al.

Summary: This research aimed to analyze the belowground traits development of guar plants, including roots and nodules. It was found that root weight is highest at the soil surface and decreases with depth, while significant accumulation of nodule weight occurs by 60 days. Nodules are mainly concentrated near the soil surface, with smaller nodules present at all depths.

Drought-induced responses on physiological performance in cluster bean [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub.]

Priyanka Upreti et al.

Summary: The study showed that the drought-tolerant variety RGC-1002 exhibited better ability in combating oxidative stress and protecting photosynthetic machinery under water stress conditions compared to the drought-sensitive RGC-936. The physiological and biochemical analyses demonstrated that RGC-1002 is well adapted and capable of surviving severe water stress.
