European eel restocking programs based on wild-caught glass eels: Feasibility of quarantine stage compatible with implementation of prophylactic measures prior to scheduled reintroduction to the wild

Natacha Delrez et al.

Summary: The anthropogenic spread of pathogens can lead to a decline in species populations. Restocking programs to counteract this decline may inadvertently contribute to the spread of pathogens, especially for endangered species sourced from the wild with unknown sanitary status. Quarantine periods, such as a 15-day pre-release quarantine, are essential for mitigating sanitary risks and managing release processes effectively in conservation programs.
