Asymmetric effects of changes in the habitat-forming algae Sargassum on different associated mobile faunas along Sao Paulo coast, Brazil

Fosca P. P. Leite et al.

Summary: Macroalgae beds undergo seasonal biomass variations which impact the abundance and diversity of associated fauna. Reduction in algal substrate results in decreased abundance of all faunal groups, while an increase or maintenance of algae leads to an increase in peracarids abundance. Different taxonomic groups show varying responses to algal biomass changes, with gastropods exhibiting higher species evenness when algae increases.
