Assessing sub-lethal effects of the dinitroaniline herbicide pendimethalin in zebrafish embryos/larvae (Danio rerio)

Shuo Wang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the sub-lethal toxicity of pendimethalin to zebrafish embryos and larvae, and found that high doses of pendimethalin caused developmental abnormalities and reduced locomotor activity in embryos and larvae. Additionally, pendimethalin at concentrations below 5μM had no significant impact on oxidative respiration and reactive oxygen species production in embryos.

Summary: Every year, the American Cancer Society projects the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the United States, with the latest data showing a significant decline in lung cancer mortality, while prostate cancer mortality has plateaued and breast and colorectal cancer mortality have slowed. Improvements in treatment have accelerated progress against lung cancer, leading to a record drop in overall cancer mortality.

The antineoplastic drugs cyclophosphamide and cisplatin in the aquatic environment ? Review

Vanessa Queiros et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the presence of cyclophosphamide and cisplatin in the aquatic environment and their effects on freshwater and marine invertebrates. Studies have shown that these antineoplastic drugs can have adverse effects on aquatic invertebrate species, including changes in reproductive function and oxidative stress. Monitoring studies need to be increased to better understand the occurrence and impacts of these drugs in aquatic environments, with a particular focus on marine ecosystems.

Behavioral and developmental toxicity assessment of the strobilurin fungicide fenamidone in zebrafish embryos/larvae (Danio rerio)

Tao Huang et al.

Summary: Fenamidone negatively affects the development of zebrafish embryos, causing a delay in hatching time and morphological deformities. It also significantly reduces oxygen consumption rates of embryos and decreases Sod2 mRNA levels in larval fish. Additionally, exposure to fenamidone leads to decreased locomotor activity in zebrafish larvae.

Exposure to acetochlor impairs swim bladder formation, induces heat shock protein expression, and promotes locomotor activity in zebrafish (Danio rerio) larvae

Tao Huang et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive evaluation of the sublethal effects of acetochlor on fish, from molecular responses to behavior, which can be used to refine risk assessment decisions for aquatic environments.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
