Optimization of the phytoremediation conditions of wastewater in post-treatment by Eichhornia crassipes and Pistia stratiotes: kinetic model for pollutants removal

Pierre Ntakiyiruta et al.

Summary: This study aims to determine the optimal conditions for pollutants removal using aquatic plants, Eichhornia crassipes and Pistia stratiotes, as a phytoremediation post-treatment. The experiment followed a complete factorial design and used a global desirability function to determine the optimal conditions. It was found that E. crassipes is more effective in removing phosphorus and nitrates, while P. stratiotes is highly efficient in removing ammonium ions and chemical oxygen demand (COD).

Metallic contamination of global river sediments and latest developments for their remediation

Abhijit Debnath et al.

Summary: This review article compares the heavy metal concentration in water and sediments of 43 global rivers, discussing the risks, mechanisms and removal methods associated with heavy metal contamination. The dynamics of metal movement between water and sediments are influenced by various factors such as physical, chemical, biological, hydrological and environmental. The study also evaluates the performance of different remediation technologies adopted by researchers from 2003 to 2019, highlighting the preference for in-situ remediation due to its cost-effectiveness and time-saving benefits.

Identification and detection of pesticide in chard samples by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy using chemometric methods

Lucila J. Martino et al.

Summary: The potential application of Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) technique for rapid measurement of pesticide residues in chard leaves was explored in this study. The accuracy of this technique in studying pesticide residues in food matrices was confirmed through principal components analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA), with an error rate of less than 9.5% and significant differences observed in group classification with a 95% confidence level.
