An extensive study on the neutron-gamma shielding and mass stopping power of (70-x) CRT-30K2O-xBaO glass system for 252Cf neutron source

Mucize Sarihan et al.

Summary: The present study investigates the shielding performance of charged-uncharged particles with the addition of a mixed type of cathode ray tube (CRT) in a glass system. The results show that CG1 glass sample has the best neutron attenuation and increasing the density of the glass leads to a higher linear attenuation coefficient. Additionally, CG1 glass structure demonstrates better capacity in stopping proton and alpha particles compared to other glass structures.

A. M. A. Mostafa et al.

Summary: The study comprehensively examined the optical, gamma, and neutron shielding properties of a PbO-Sb2O3-B2O3-CuO glass system, revealing a positive correlation between absorbance and PbO content. The PSBC5 sample exhibited superior density and shielding parameters values, making it an efficient shield against gamma radiation. Additionally, calculations showed that the PSBC5 sample had a significantly greater effective removal cross section for fast neutrons.

The influence of MgO on the radiation protection and mechanical properties of tellurite glasses

M. Y. Hanfi et al.

Summary: The mechanical moduli and microhardness of TeO2-MgO glasses were theoretically calculated using the Makishimae-Mackenzie model, showing improved properties with higher MgO content. The radiation shielding capacity of the studied glasses was evaluated, with TM10 glass exhibiting the highest linear attenuation coefficient and TM45 glass showing the lowest value. The BXCOM program was used to calculate the effective atomic number and buildup factors of the glasses, as well as the effective removal cross-section for fast neutrons.

New approach to removal of hazardous Bypass Cement Dust (BCD) from the environment: 20Na2O-20BaCl2-(60-x)B2O3-(x)BCD glass system and Optical, mechanical, structural and nuclear radiation shielding competences

A. I. Elazaka et al.

Summary: This study focused on the removal of Bypass Cement Dust (BCD) from the environment by investigating glass systems with varying compositions. The results showed that as the BCD fraction increased, the shielding properties of the glasses improved, along with an increase in optical conductivity. Furthermore, the hardness of the glasses was found to increase gradually with the addition of BCD content.
