Direct dye wastewater photocatalysis using immobilized titanium dioxide on fixed substrate

Woottikrai Chairungsri et al.

Summary: The research focused on immobilizing TiO2 onto glass and iron beads substrates by calcining the composite materials at different temperatures. SEM and EDS analyses showed that TiO2 particles were evenly distributed on the substrates at 700 degrees C, with mixed-phase anatase and rutile structures beneficial to photocatalysis. The composite materials achieved a direct dye photodegradation efficiency of 64.0% at 4 h, with high stability of the immobilized TiO2 on the fixed substrates even after reuse.

Mechanochemical synthesis of ternary heterojunctions TiO2(A)/TiO2(R)/ZnO and TiO2(A)/TiO2(R)/SnO2 for effective charge separation in semiconductor photocatalysis: A comparative study

M. L. Aruna Kumari et al.

Summary: TiO2, ZnO, and SnO2 metal oxides were synthesized and heterojunctions were fabricated by combining TiO2 with either ZnO or SnO2 in a 1:1 ratio using mechanochemical ball milling process. The ternary heterojunctions showed enhanced photocatalytic activity, with TiO2(A)/TiO2(R)/ZnO heterojunction attributed to the formation of Ti3+-V-o defect states leading to efficient charge carrier separation. The ball milling process resulted in severe crystal deformation in TiO2 and ZnO lattices, creating crystal lattice distortion and defects due to valency mismatch between Ti4+ and Zn2+.

In-situ preparation of biochar-loaded particle electrode and its application in the electrochemical degradation of 4-chlorophenol in wastewater

Shuming Xie et al.

Summary: A biochar-loaded particle electrode was prepared using an in-situ method for effectively degrading 4-chlorophenol in wastewater. The supported biomass carbon particle electrode showed significantly higher degradation efficiency compared to the unsupported one. Different loading and concentration of biomass carbon particle electrodes greatly influenced the electrochemical degradation of 4-chlorophenol, with Mn/AC > Sn/AC > Sb/AC showing the best removal efficiencies.

The quaternary system of Ag2S/ZnS co-modified ZnO/TiO2 nanotree arrays: Excellent photocatalysis and photoelectrochemistry performance

Kang Xu et al.

Summary: The ZnO/TiO2 nanotree arrays promote the separation of electron-hole pairs, with improved photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic properties. The core-shell structure of ZnS passivation layer and ZnO prevents decomposition, enhances light absorption, and promotes charge transfer. Ag2S modification reduces bandgap width, red-shifts optical absorption edge, and improves absorption intensity, resulting in enhanced photo current density and photocatalytic rate constants compared to pure TiO2.

Valarmathi Mahendran et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the degradation of Acid Scarlet 3R dye using Fe doped TiO2 photocatalyst combined with ultrasound and hydrogen peroxide. Under optimized conditions, the combination of photocatalysis with H2O2 showed the highest decolorization efficiency of 91.15% and COD reduction of 75.4%, outperforming the combination with ultrasound. This approach was proven to be the most effective treatment strategy for dye degradation.
