Dynamic evolution of humic acids during anaerobic digestion: Exploring an effective auxiliary agent for heavy metal remediation

Xiqing Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that during the anaerobic digestion process of corn stover, humic acid showed increased structural and functional groups, giving it better metal-binding abilities for Cu(II), Co(II), and Ni(II) compared to chicken manure. Humic acid extracted at different stages demonstrated varying complexation capacities for heavy metals, highlighting the potential for using HA extracted from AD process for heavy metal remediation.

DFT study of X-doped (X = Cu, Ag, Au) boron nitride nanotubes for spintronic and optoelectronic applications

A. Kebabi et al.

Summary: This study conducted first-principle calculations on the influence of Cu, Ag, and Au atom doping in boron nitride nanotube structures, revealing that adsorption of Cu and Au atoms can induce magnetization while Ag cannot. The results indicate that the magnetic properties of BNNTs can be modified by appropriate atom doping, making Cu and Au-doped BNNT structures a potential alternative for developing magnetic and optic nanostructures.

Ethylenediamine-functionalized Zr-based MOF for efficient removal of heavy metal ions from water

Farhad Ahmadijokani et al.

Summary: Ethylenediamine-functionalized Zr-based metal-organic framework (UiO-66-EDA) showed excellent adsorption capability for Pb(II), Cd(II), and Cu(II) metal ions, with adsorption behavior governed by pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models. The adsorption process depended on interactions between metal ions and the abundant functional groups on the UiO-66-EDA surface.

Effects of landfill refuse on the reductive dechlorination of pentachlorophenol and speciation transformation of heavy metals

Hong-Bao Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that landfill refuse contains a variety of active functional groups, with electron donating capacity higher than electron accepting capacity, mainly achieved through hydroxyl groups; Inorganic minerals and speciation distribution of heavy metals in the refuse were affected, with zinc and nickel showing high migration potential, while chromium, copper, and lead are relatively stable.

A new synthesizing method of TiO2 with montmorillonite: Effective photoelectron transfer to degrade Rhodamine B

E. Tao et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel photocatalyst material, TMC, was synthesized by loading TiO2 on the surface of MMT to remove Rhodamine B via photocatalytic degradation. The negative potential on the surface of MMT played a crucial role in distributing TiO2 and limiting particle size. Experimental results confirmed that O-center dot(2)- and (OH)-O-center dot were dominant free radicals involved in the photocatalytic process.
