Mycological and and histopathological identification of potential fish pathogens in Nile tilapia

Heba H. Mahboub et al.

Summary: The rapid development of freshwater aquaculture in Egypt has led to the emergence of new and precedent fungal diseases in fish. Three serious fungal pathogens in Nile tilapia have been identified: superficial infection by Saprolegnia spp., systemic infection by Ichthyophonus sp., and gill-affecting Branchiomyces. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of these fungal pathogens and their prevalence in both wild and cultured Nile tilapia in Egypt.

Biological effects of multimetal (Ni, Cd, Pb, Cu, Cr, Zn) mixture in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss: Laboratory exposure and recovery study

Milda Stankeviciute et al.

Summary: The study revealed that exposure to a multimetal mixture at Maximum-Permissible-Concentrations (MPCs) induced genotoxic effects in fish blood erythrocytes and lethargic behavior in Oncorhynchus mykiss. Additionally, the study showed that O. mykiss had the ability to depurate chromium and nickel within 28 days but had a slower decrease in cadmium levels. Moreover, the fish demonstrated a significant capacity to restore DNA integrity after exposure to the metal mixture, although the recovery period was insufficient for erythrocytes with nuclear abnormalities to fully recover.
