Direct dye wastewater photocatalysis using immobilized titanium dioxide on fixed substrate

Woottikrai Chairungsri et al.

Summary: The research focused on immobilizing TiO2 onto glass and iron beads substrates by calcining the composite materials at different temperatures. SEM and EDS analyses showed that TiO2 particles were evenly distributed on the substrates at 700 degrees C, with mixed-phase anatase and rutile structures beneficial to photocatalysis. The composite materials achieved a direct dye photodegradation efficiency of 64.0% at 4 h, with high stability of the immobilized TiO2 on the fixed substrates even after reuse.

Summary: Micro-mesoporous TiO2/SiO2 nanocomposite powders were successfully synthesized using the sol-gel process, with Si60Ti40 powders exhibiting the highest specific surface area. Si80Ti20 powders showed better degradation of quinoline in the presence of H2O2 compared to pure sol-gel TiO2 powders, attributed to small TiO2 anatase crystallite size, high dispersion, great specific surface area, and formation of Ti-O-Si bond.
