Do economic development and human capital decrease non-renewable energy consumption? Evidence for OECD countries

Rafael Alvarado et al.

Summary: The study finds that economic development does not reduce energy consumption from fossil sources, but human capital can decrease the consumption of non-renewable energy. Globalization and human capital are seen as the last hope for promoting the transition to a more sustainable energy matrix in developed countries.

Crude oil prices and clean energy stock indices: Lagged and asymmetric effects with quantile regression

Ishaan Dawar et al.

Summary: The study uses quantile regression to analyze the relationship between crude oil prices and clean energy stock returns, finding a decreasing dependence of clean energy stock returns on crude oil returns under diverse market conditions. The lagged effect of oil returns on clean energy stock returns is generally significant, with a strong effect of negative oil returns during bearish periods and an insignificant effect during bullish episodes.

Does renewable energy electricity and economic complexity index help to achieve carbon neutrality target of top exporting countries?

Hai-Shi Li et al.

Summary: The study highlights the relationship between economic complexity index, renewable energy electricity, exports, imports, and economic growth with consumption-based carbon emissions in top exporting countries. To achieve carbon neutrality, policymakers should implement economic complexity reforms, import green products, and increase investments in sustainable sources.

Co-movement between oil price, CO2 emission, renewable energy and energy equities: Evidence from GCC countries

Mohammed A. Alkathery et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the co-movement between oil price, EU carbon allowance prices, global clean energy index and equity index from GCC countries, revealing the existence of volatility spillover effects and co-movement among these variables. The research also found that market volatilities are influenced by shocks from the markets themselves, with long-run persistent volatilities more pronounced for oil and CO2 emission prices. The forecasting exercise demonstrated the superior performance of multivariate diagonal-BEKK GARCH models.

The effect of energy consumption on the environment in the OECD countries: economic policy uncertainty perspectives

Abdulrasheed Zakari et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of energy use and economic policy uncertainties on the environment using PMG-ARDL methodology and Dumitrescu and Hurlin causality test on 22 OECD countries between 1985 and 2017. The results show a positive relationship between energy use and economic policy uncertainties with CO2 emissions, while a negative relationship exists between renewable energy and CO2 emissions in the long run. Additionally, short-term estimation reveals a positive relationship between energy use, real GDP, and per capita on CO2 emissions.

Heterogeneous links among urban concentration, non-renewable energy use intensity, economic development, and environmental emissions across regional development levels

Munir Ahmad et al.

Summary: The study found bidirectional positive linkages between economic development and urban concentration, a unidirectional positive linkage from non-renewable energy use intensity to environmental emissions index, and bidirectional mixed linkages between economic development and non-renewable energy use intensity. Urban concentration showed a U-shaped linkage with non-renewable energy use intensity and environmental emissions index, while economic development exhibited an environmental Kuznets curve with environmental emissions index.

Testing the asymmetric causal nexus of housing-oil prices and pandemic uncertainty in four major economies

Andrew Adewale Alola et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the Granger causality among housing price, unemployment rate, crude oil price, and world pandemic uncertainty in France, Germany, the UK, and the USA from 1996Q1 to 2019Q2. The study reveals significant evidence of linear Granger causality between unemployment rate and house prices in all four economies, as well as asymmetric evidence involving world pandemic uncertainty. The findings suggest policy implications for policymakers in the examined countries, with variations explained by differences in economic structures and other factors.

Vertical financial disparity, energy prices and emission reduction: Empirical insights from Pakistan

Weiqing Li et al.

Summary: The study examines the impact of vertical fiscal imbalances on energy prices and carbon emission trends, finding that these imbalances limit environmental quality in Pakistan and contribute to environmental degradation by affecting industrial structure. It suggests revisiting energy price determination mechanisms to provide a user-friendly assessment of costs related to environmental pollution, in order to maximize environmental protection and energy conservation. The study further recommends considering vertical fiscal imbalances as an active indicator for energy price determination and environmental quality enhancement.
