Congener- and isomer-specific Perfluorinated compounds in textile wastewater from Southeast China

Chunjie Gu et al.

Summary: The study measured congener- and isomer-specific PFCs in influent and effluent from 48 textile plants in the Yangtze River Delta, China. The results showed that raw materials played a significant role in the distribution of PFCs in wastewater, with higher levels found in chemical fibre manufacturing compared to other materials. While there was no significant difference in PFCs removal rates between different treatment techniques, implementing textile cleaner production is crucial for controlling PFCs in wastewater.

Paper product production identified as the main source of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in a Norwegian lake: Source and historic emission tracking

Hakon A. Langberg et al.

Summary: The sediment bed in lake Tyrifjorden, Norway, is contaminated by PFAS with the main source being a factory producing paper products. Isomer profiles in sediments can be used to trace the point source of pollution. Paper fibers released from such facilities may play a significant role in PFAS transport in the aquatic environment.

A review of the occurrence, transformation, and removal of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in wastewater treatment plants

Swadhina Priyadarshini Lenka et al.

Summary: PFAS are widely used in consumer and industrial applications worldwide, with monitoring studies in WWTPs mainly focused on China, Europe, and North America. Short and long-chain perfluoroalkyl acids are widely detected in WWTP influents and effluents, with most WWTPs exhibiting low removal efficiencies for PFAS and biodegradation being the primary mechanism for PFAS transformation in WWTPs.

Distribution and fate of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in wastewater treatment facilities

Elham Tavasoli et al.

Summary: PFAS, as a class of persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic anthropogenic compounds, are of growing concern due to their widespread use. This study in six New Hampshire municipal WWTFs found that short-chain PFAS were dominant in influent and effluent, while long-chain compounds were prevalent in sludge. The TOP assay indicated a significantly lower proportion of oxidizable PFAS precursors in July influent and effluent compared to March.
