Yifei Leng et al.

Summary: Enzyme catalyzed coupling with redox mediators, specifically horseradish peroxidase (HRP) with 1-hydroxybenzotriazole (HBT), was effective in transforming sulfadiazine (SDZ) under varying conditions. The transformation efficiency was influenced by the presence of Ca2+ ions and different types of particles, such as humic acid (HA) and polystyrene (PS) microplastics, which acted as inhibitors. The competitive effect between cations and SDZ was observed, with divalent cations (Ca2+) showing greater competitiveness than monovalent ones (Na+).

Kinetic Analysis of H2O2 Activation by an Iron(III) Complex in Water Reveals a Nonhomolytic Generation Pathway to an Iron(IV)oxo Complex

Christopher J. Miller et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the activation of [Fe-III(OH)(tpena)](+) by H2O2 proceeds by the formation of [Fe-III(OOH)(tpena)](+), which undergoes two major reactions to produce HO· and [Fe-IV(O)(tpena)](+). The production of HO· was quantified by a chemiluminescence method, showing that [Fe-IV(O)(tpena)](+) is produced in much larger yields than HO·. Additionally, the study indicates that a reactive high-valent iron-oxo species and HO· can be generated under mild, aqueous ambient conditions, which represents a significant contribution to biomimetic nonheme chemistry in water.
