Reconciling high resolution climate datasets using KrigR

Richard Davy et al.

Summary: There is an increasing demand for high spatial and temporal resolution climate data among climate researchers, but current global climate model and reanalysis datasets do not match the required resolutions. The use of statistical methods like Kriging can accurately recover spatial heterogeneity in climate data and preserve uncertainty associated with statistical downscaling, helping to explain differences between widely used high resolution climate datasets.

Does ERA5 outperform satellite products in estimating atmospheric downward longwave radiation at the surface?

Wenjun Tang et al.

Summary: This study compared the accuracy of DLR products from ERA5 atmospheric reanalysis and CERES satellite retrievals, finding that ERA5 performed better over land surfaces but slightly worse over ocean surfaces. This highlights the potential application prospects for ERA5 and poses new challenges for quantitative remote sensing research.

ERA5-Land: a state-of-the-art global reanalysis dataset for land applications

Joaquin Munoz-Sabater et al.

Summary: ERA5-Land is a global dataset produced by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts within the Copernicus Climate Change Service, covering the period from 1950 to the present. It provides enhanced resolution and consistency in describing the evolution of the water and energy cycles, with added value in hydrological and energy cycle analysis.
