Evaluating the detection efficacy of advanced bimetallic plasmonic nanoparticles for heavy metals, hazardous materials and pesticides of leachate in contaminated groundwater

A. Aarthi et al.

Summary: Leachate from landfills poses a serious threat to surface and groundwater, with potential pollution risks. This study developed a sensor using gold/silver bimetallic nanoparticles for specific detection of landfill leachate in groundwater, with the ability to detect aromatic hydrocarbons, pesticides, and heavy metals. The use of a synergetic strategy involving photocatalytic degradation and SERS detection showed promising results, demonstrating the potential for pollutant-free aquifers.
