Occurrence and dietary intake of Perfluoroalkyl substances in foods of the residents in Beijing, China

Xueping Wang et al.

Summary: A study on the dietary intake of PFASs and their alternatives among residents of Beijing, China, found that linear PFASs were mainly present in fish, while PFBS was mainly found in vegetables, and PFAS alternatives were detected in freshwater and marine fish. Although the intake of PFASs was below the recommended levels by EFSA, further evaluation of the risks associated with alternatives is necessary.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), hexabromocyclododecanes (HBCDD), dechlorane-related compounds (DRCs), and emerging brominated flame retardants (EBFRs) in foods: The levels, profiles, and dietary intake in Latvia

D. Zacs et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the Latvian population's exposure to various brominated flame retardants through food consumption. While HBCDD was the primary exposure substance, PBDEs, DRCs, and EBFRs also contributed to intake. Risk assessment based on EFSA's approach indicated that the estimated dietary exposures are unlikely to have significant health concerns for the Latvian population.

Aggressiveness and Metastatic Potentialof Breast Cancer Cells Co-Cultured with Preadipocytes and Exposed to an Environmental Pollutant Dioxin: An in Vitro and in Vivo Zebrafish Study

Meriem Koual et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the interaction between breast cancer cells and organic pollutants in their microenvironment on tumor invasiveness. The results showed that coexposure to 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) and preadipocytes can modify BC cell properties, induce the expression of the cancer stem cell marker ALDH1A3, and lead to the appearance of giant cancer cells with cell-in-cell structures in vivo, which are associated with malignant metastatic progression.

Short- and medium-chain chlorinated paraffin exposure in South Germany: A total diet, meal and market basket study

Kerstin Kraetschmer et al.

Summary: This study assessed dietary exposure for consumers in Southern Germany regarding SCCPs and MCCPs, finding that CPs were present in food, with highest amounts in extra virgin olive oils and fish. Different dietary samples showed consistent CPs levels, but vegetarian meal plans contained higher levels of CPs than other diets.
