Chemical mapping of tire and road wear particles for single particle analysis

Michael Kovochich et al.

Summary: This study characterized the specific physical and chemical properties of individual TRWP using analytical techniques such as SEM/EDX mapping and ToF-SIMS mapping. The results showed that TRWP have specific shape, elemental surface characteristics, and organic surface markers, requiring a combination of physical and chemical markers for accurate identification.

Quantification of tire wear particles in road dust from industrial and residential areas in Seoul, Korea

Jong-Sang Youn et al.

Summary: This study investigated tire and road wear microparticles (TRWMPs) in road dust in industrial and residential areas of the Seoul metropolitan area. It found that the concentration of TRWMPs in the industrial area was 2.5 times higher than in the residential area, with a slightly higher ratio of NR to SBR in the industrial area. This suggests that the higher traffic volume, including heavy duty vehicles, in industrial areas contributes to the higher concentration of TRWMPs.
