Wound myiasis in Western Europe: prevalence and risk factors in a changing climate scenario

Erika Andreatta et al.

Summary: Myiasis, an infestation of neglected wounds by fly larvae, may be influenced by global warming, climate changes, and increased travel to tropical areas contributing to the spread of new fly species. This study reviewed cases reported in Europe, finding myiasis to be rare and potentially under-reported. The epidemiology of myiasis in Europe may be changing due to climate variability, increased travel to tropical areas, and species migration.

Wound myiasis in a wild boar by Lucilia caesar (Diptera: Calliphoridae): First case and current status of animal myiasis by this species

Marco Pezzi et al.

Summary: The first case of myiasis caused by Lucilia caesar in a wild boar in Southern Italy is described, with the identification of the agent based on adult male morphology. The wild boar had a wound on its right side near the neck, largely infested by larvae. The ecology, distribution, and current literature status of cases of animal myiasis by this species are also included.
