Critical examination on in-plane inertias for vibration characteristics of cylindrical shells

Youheng Dong et al.

Summary: This study critically examines the in-plane inertia and rotary inertia of cylindrical shells for breathing vibration, presenting analytical solutions based on different theories and validating them through finite element analyses. The research shows that neglecting these inertias can affect the natural frequencies of cylindrical shells, depending on the characteristics of the breathing vibration modes.

Nonlinear forced vibration of functionally graded graphene platelet-reinforced metal foam cylindrical shells: internal resonances

Chao Ye et al.

Summary: The study focused on analyzing the nonlinear forced vibration of thin-walled metal foam cylindrical shells reinforced with functionally graded graphene platelets, particularly examining the 1:1:1:2 internal resonances. Different porosity distribution and graphene platelet distribution significantly influenced the nonlinear behavior of the shells, with the inclusion of graphene platelets weakening the nonlinear coupling effect. The effects of porosity coefficient and GPL weight fraction on the nonlinear dynamical response were found to be strongly related to porosity distribution and graphene platelet distribution.

Nonlinear vibration of functionally graded graphene platelet-reinforced composite truncated conical shell using first-order shear deformation theory

Shaowu Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, a nonlinear dynamic model for a conical shell truncated by a functionally graded graphene platelet-reinforced composite (FG-GPLRC) is established using the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). Vibration analyses of the FG-GPLRC truncated conical shell are presented, and the effects of weight fraction, distribution pattern, length-to-radius ratio, and radius-to-thickness ratio on the nonlinear natural frequency characteristics are discussed. The study culminates in the discovery of periodic motion and chaotic motion of the FG-GPLRC truncated conical shell.
