Peer-to-peer energy systems for connected communities: A review of recent advances and emerging challenges

Wayes Tushar et al.

Summary: After a long period of stability in the electricity industry, extensive deployment of distributed energy resources and advancements in computation and communication technologies have led to a transition in the power system from a traditional hierarchical structure to a more decentralized model. While the effectiveness of P2P sharing has been demonstrated in various studies and pilot projects, there are still challenges to be addressed for its widespread implementation in today's electricity markets.

Network-Aware Demand-Side Management Framework With A Community Energy Storage System Considering Voltage Constraints

Chathurika P. Mediwaththe et al.

Summary: This study explores the integration of a community energy storage (CES) system with rooftop photovoltaic (PV) power generation through a decentralized energy trading system, demonstrating the feasibility of demand-side management of a neighbourhood. Results show that energy trading between the CES system and the grid can reduce peak energy demand, prevent network voltage excursions, and bring financial benefits to both users and the CES provider. Comparatively, the decentralized energy trading system provides greater economic benefits to users with less energy storage capacity than a centralized system.
