Biofuels production from pine needles via pyrolysis: Process parameters modeling and optimization through combined RSM and ANN based approach

Shubhi Gupta et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the pyrolysis potential of pine needles and determined that a combined approach of response surface methodology and artificial neural network techniques showed better capability in modeling the process. The ANN model demonstrated higher R-2 values and lower MSE values, indicating its superiority in predicting process yield compared to RSM modeling. Temperature was identified as the most predominant variable influencing product yield, with optimized conditions predicting maximum bio-oil production.

Thermodynamics, kinetics and thermal decomposition characteristics of sewage sludge during slow pyrolysis

Katlego Mphahlele et al.

Summary: Pyrolysis of sewage sludge has shown potential for producing value-added chemicals, with decomposition occurring in three stages and the main decomposition taking place at 150-570 degrees Celsius. Increasing heating rate shifts characteristic temperatures higher, and calculated activation energies average around 220 kJ/mol. Multiple reactions and complex reaction chemistry are involved in the pyrolysis process, making it challenging to define global kinetics explicitly.

Hydrogen production from dairy wastewater using catalytic supercritical water gasification: Mechanism and reaction pathway

Reza Khorasani et al.

Summary: The study showed that increasing temperature and prolonged residence time contribute to enhanced hydrogen production and gasification efficiency. Addition of formic acid favored increasing hydrogen content, while metal oxides (MnO2 and MgO) exhibited peak hydrogen production at 1% concentration before decreasing.

Synergistic effects of catalytic co-pyrolysis of corn cob and HDPE waste mixtures using weight average global process model

Jia Xin Liew et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the synergistic effects and kinetic parameters for binary mixtures of corn cob and HDPE in co-pyrolysis with the presence of renewable chicken and duck eggshell catalyst using thermogravimetric analysis. The results indicate the existence of synergistic effects during the pyrolysis process, with activation energy values reflecting the presence of catalytic pyrolysis. The study also utilizes artificial neural network and joint optimization modelling to validate and optimize the results from the TGA.

Co-pyrolysis of sewage sludge and low-density polyethylene - A thermogravimetric study of thermo-kinetics and thermodynamic parameters

Ali Zaker et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermal behaviors, kinetics and thermodynamics of sewage sludge (SS) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and their blends during co-pyrolysis, confirming a positive interaction between SS and LDPE leading to improved weight loss rate and devolatilization. The activation energies, Gibbs free energy, and lower difference of enthalpy showed potential for converting bio-solid wastes into bioenergy.
