The photothermal effect enhance visible light-driven hydrogen evolution using urchin-like hollow RuO2/TiO2/Pt/C nanomaterial

Bowen Li et al.

Summary: The novel urchin-like hollow TiO2 photothermal nano-catalyst with spatially separated Pt and RuO2 dual cocatalysts combined with a carbon layer shows improved catalytic hydrogen evolution under visible light irradiation. The sandwich nanostructure effectively supports and protects the Pt nanoparticles, while the hot electrons generated from the carbon layer participate in the photocatalytic reaction. The enhanced visible light absorption performance of TiO2 is attributed to narrowing the band gap and reducing penetration-loss of light with a hollow structure, resulting in improved catalytic performance for hydrogen production.
