Enhanced effects of footwarmer by wearing sandals in winter office: A Swedish case study

Bin Yang et al.

Summary: Human-centred thermal environment conditioning focuses on providing thermal comfort for human occupants through localized heating/cooling devices in micro-environments, while also achieving energy efficiency in larger unoccupied areas. Task conditioning aims to target human bodies more closely using special clothing materials or thermoelectric elements, resulting in improved thermal comfort. Applying thermal stimulus to thermally sensitive body parts can enhance both local and whole body thermal comfort.

Experimental study on local floor heating mats to improve thermal comfort of workers in cold environments

Haiying Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that using larger size and higher power input heating mats can significantly improve subjects' thermal sensation, feet thermal sensation, and thermal comfort. When the air temperature decreases, feet thermal sensation should be higher to keep the total thermal sensation close to neutral. Heating mats also increase subjects' working efficiency, related to thermal sensation and thermal comfort.

Personal Heating in Dwellings as an Innovative, Energy-Sufficient Heating Practice: A Case Study Research

Nick Van Loy et al.

Summary: Despite efforts to improve building energy efficiency, actual energy consumption has decreased less than expected in recent years. An alternative approach, energy sufficiency, aims to provide thermal comfort to residents in buildings by reducing actual energy consumption, typically through practices like personal heating systems. A one-week case study on personal heating in three dwellings showed that despite lower indoor temperatures, residents were able to achieve thermal comfort and significant energy savings through personal heating, supporting the idea that innovative personal heating practices can help reduce overall energy consumption in dwellings.
