Experimental study on the mechanism of enhanced oil recovery by non-condensable gas-assisted steam flooding process in extra-heavy oil reservoir

Jie Fan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of non-condensable gas-assisted steam flooding on heavy oil recovery. The results show that non-condensable gas can effectively reduce oil viscosity and density, increase flow capability, prolong anhydrous recovery period, and improve development performance.

Characterization of petroleum sulfonate synthesized via gas-phase SO3 sulfonation in rotating packed bed and its application in enhanced oil recovery

Xiaoke Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, petroleum sulfonate (PS) was synthesized by gas-phase SO3 sulfonation and characterized using various analytical techniques. The results showed that PS has good performance in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and can alter rock wettability to increase oil recovery. The study provides insights into the relationship between PS composition and EOR performance, and offers guidance for the synthesis of PS.

Mechanism based diffusion-reaction modelling for predicting the influence of SARA composition and ageing stage on spurt completion time and diffusivity in bitumen

Uwe Muhlich et al.

Summary: This study examines the advantages of using diffusion-reaction models based on continuum thermodynamics of irreversible processes for reacting mixtures, through a specific model for spurt oxidation in bitumen. The predicted spurt completion times were compared with initial composition parameters, showing consistency with experimental results. Additionally, the model predicted a significant decrease in diffusivity due to oxidation in the absence of out-diffusion of reaction products.

CO2 injection strategies for enhanced oil recovery and geological sequestration in a tight reservoir: An experimental study

Danchen Li et al.

Summary: The study investigated the efficiency of different injection strategies for simultaneous CO2 EOR and storage in ultra-low permeability core samples. Water alternative gas injection was found to be more effective than continuous gas injection, while cyclic gas injection provided the most efficient strategy for enhanced oil recovery in the tight rocks studied.
