CaO catalyst for multi-route conversion of oakwood biomass to value-added chemicals and fuel precursors in fast pyrolysis

Jyoti Gupta et al.

Summary: The study found that at 500 degrees Celsius, CaO has an impact on oakwood pyrolysis, with CaOOH promoting ketonisation of carboxylic acids and reducing the formation of ether compounds, accelerating hydrogen generation and the multi-step conversion of furfural to cyclopentanone.

Enhanced production of renewable aromatic hydrocarbons for jet-fuel from softwood biomass and plastic waste using hierarchical ZSM-5 modified with lignin-assisted re-assembly

Moriko Qian et al.

Summary: Biomass-derived materials have great potential as an alternative templating agent for tailoring new pore systems in zeolites to enhance catalyst properties. In this study, hierarchical ZSM-5 was prepared with the assistance of alkaline lignin and showed improved catalytic performance in co-pyrolysis of softwood biomass and LDPE mixture. The enlarged pore openings in hierarchical ZSM-5 facilitated the passage of reactive species and resulted in higher selectivity of desirable aromatic hydrocarbons and coke formation inhibition compared to parent zeolite.

Feasibility of online pre-reforming step with dolomite for improving Ni spinel catalyst stability in the steam reforming of raw bio-oil

Naiara Garcia-Gomez et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of a low-cost catalyst pre-reforming step on the stability of a Ni-spinel catalyst in the steam reforming of raw bio-oil. The results show that the PSR temperature affects the type and distribution of coke deposits, with PSR at 400 degrees Celsius enhancing the stability of the Ni spinel catalyst.

Preparation of various hierarchical HZSM-5 based catalysts for in-situ fast upgrading of bio-oil

Nichaboon Chaihad et al.

Summary: Hierarchical HZSM-5 zeolites prepared by desilication with TPAOH-assisted NaOH exhibited enhanced catalytic performance in the upgrading of bio-oil derived from fast pyrolysis of sunflower stalk, with the best performance achieved through metal modification. Specifically, 0.25 wt% Cu loaded hierarchical HZSM-5 showed increased aromatic hydrocarbons yield with reduced coke formation.
