K. Santhosh et al.

Summary: This experimental research investigates the effect of 1-Hexanol on engine parameters and finds that advanced injection time shows improved combustion parameters and fuel efficiency. The study suggests that 50% of 1-Hexanol can be used in a CI engine with slight modification in injection time to achieve improved efficiency.

The role of alcohol biofuels in advanced combustion: An analysis

Brian Gainey et al.

Summary: This study identifies the optimal next generation stratified low temperature combustion (LTC) strategy for various biosynthesized alcohol fuels by analyzing how local ignition delays respond to stratification induced by fuel injection. Two groups of next generation stratified LTC modes are generalized based on the heat release process, with C1-C4 alcohols suitable for lean-to-rich burn stratified combustion and C5+ alcohols suitable for rich-to-lean burn stratified combustion. Methanol or water-alcohol blends are found to be the best candidates for lean-to-rich burn stratified combustion, while n-pentanol, n-hexanol, and hexanol isomers are identified as the best candidates for rich-to-lean burn stratified combustion.

Assessing emission and power tradeoffs of biodiesel and n-Butanol in diesel blends for fuel sustainability

Marissa S. Liang

Summary: The use of renewable biodiesel and additives in transportation fuel mixtures can lead to measurable changes in engine emission and power output, requiring a balance between environmental impacts. Blending diesel with biodiesel can reduce particulate matter emissions, but may result in increased nitrogen oxide emissions.

Effect of asymmetric structural characteristics of multi-hole marine diesel injectors on internal cavitation patterns and flow characteristics: A numerical study

Wei Guan et al.

Summary: The study shows that asymmetric structural characteristics of the nozzle significantly influence the interior flow, with larger diameter leading to higher mass flow rates and flow discharge coefficients. The concave sphere shapes connecting the injector body and the holes help reduce the negative effects of eccentric holes. Different hole scales and shapes result in different flow phenomena.

Diesel-oxygenated fuels ternary blends with nano additives in compression ignition engine: A step towards cleaner combustion and green environment

Ahmed El-Seesy et al.

Summary: This research aims to enhance the utilization of Jatropha biodiesel in a CI engine by using higher alcohols and graphene oxide nano-additives. The results show that higher alcohols and GO can facilitate increasing the Jatropha biodiesel fraction in the mixture with appropriate diesel engine performance enhancement.

An optical study on spray and combustion characteristics of ternary hydrogenated catalytic biodiesel/methanol/n-octanol blends; part I: Spray morphology, ignition delay, and flame lift-off length

Tiemin Xuan et al.

Summary: The study focused on the spray morphology, ignition delay, and flame lift-off length of ternary hydrogenated catalytic biodiesel (HCB)/methanol/n-octanol blends. The addition of n-octanol as a co-solvent enhances the mixture stability of HCB/methanol, while the increase of methanol percentage in the blends contributes to a longer ignition delay due to the high oxygen content of methanol. Cetane number plays a more important role than stoichiometric fuel mass fraction in affecting flame lift-off length.

An optical study on spray and combustion characteristics of ternary hydrogenated catalytic biodiesel/methanol/n-octanol blends; part n: Liquid length and in-flame soot

Tiemin Xuan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the spray and flame characteristics of methanol and HCB blended fuels, showing an increase in liquid length with higher methanol content and a decrease in in-flame soot production with additional methanol due to leaner fuel combustion and higher oxygen content within the blends.

Influence of quaternary combinations of biodiesel/methanol/n-octanol/diethyl ether from waste cooking oil on combustion, emission, and stability aspects of a diesel engine

Ahmed EL-Seesy et al.

Summary: Methanol is considered a promising renewable fuel for diesel engines, but faces challenges due to phase separation, low cetane number, and high latent heat of vaporization. This study aimed to improve methanol's usability in diesel engines by using n-octanol and diethyl ether as cosolvents and ignition improvers. The addition of n-octanol improved solubility, but the blends showed lower cylinder pressure and thermal efficiency compared to waste cooking oil biodiesel alone. Engine emissions of nitrogen oxide levels decreased with the blends, but carbon monoxide and smoke opacity increased.
