Biolubricant Production from Several Oleaginous Feedstocks Using Lipases as Catalysts: Current Scenario and Future Perspectives

Iara C. A. Bolina et al.

Summary: Biolubricants have gained more attention in recent years compared to conventional petroleum-based lubricants, due to their advantages in terms of biodegradability, low toxicity, excellent lubricating performance, and minimal environmental impact. They can be efficiently produced using various types of oleaginous feedstocks and different chemical reactions catalyzed by lipases, making them promising in the context of Green Chemistry. The review also highlights the potential for enzymatic biolubricant production on an industrial scale, as well as the challenges that need to be addressed for further development in this field.

Fatty Acid Profile of Microalgal Oils as a Criterion for Selection of the Best Feedstock for Biodiesel Production

Malgorzata Hawrot-Paw et al.

Summary: Microalgae are considered promising feedstocks for biodiesel production due to their fast growth rate and high oil content. This study investigated the biofuel production potential of Chlorella vulgaris, Chlorella fusca, Oocystis submarina, and Monoraphidium strain, analyzing the effects of nutrient limitation on biomass growth, lipid accumulation, and physico-chemical parameters of algal biodiesel. Nutrient stress increased lipid production and reduced ash content in microalgal cells, with the fatty acid profile being affected by the type of strain.
